Reading a Kratom Label: Batch Numbers and Net Weight

A product label is doing quiet, important work. Beyond the brand name and the variety, it carries the details you need to request a lab report, compare prices fairly, and use the product consistently. Here is what to look for.

The batch or lot number

This small string of letters and numbers is the most useful thing on the label. It identifies the specific production run your package came from, and it is the key you use when requesting the matching Certificate of Analysis. Photograph it or keep the packaging until you are comfortable with your purchase.

Net weight

Net weight tells you how much product is in the container, not counting the packaging itself. It is the fair way to compare prices between brands and formats: a larger number on the front of a bag means nothing until you check the weight. For powders, weight is listed in grams; for capsules, look for both the capsule count and the amount of powder per capsule.

Format and ingredients

A straightforward kratom powder label lists one ingredient: kratom leaf powder. Capsule labels add the shell itself, sometimes described as gelatin or a plant-based alternative. If a label lists ingredients you do not recognize, that is worth a question to the seller before you buy.

Strain names and vein colors

You will see names like Green Maeng Da or Red Bali. These are labeling conventions, a shorthand for the leaf's appearance and market origin. They are product names, not descriptions of effects, and research has not established that any particular color reliably produces any particular experience. Treat them as identifiers, not promises.

Age and legal notices

Reputable labels state that the product is for adults (in our case, 21 and over) and note that it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Because kratom's legal status varies by state and locality, check your local laws before ordering.
